Matthiessen State Park

Welcome to Matthiessen State Park!  My photos were taken on November 11, 2006.  The state park is located near Utica.  The address is Box 509, Utica, IL 61373.  The phone number is 1-815-667-4868.

In the park you will find canyons, streams, prairie, and forest. The park offers geology and recreation. Beautiful rock formations are found inside the park.

Matthiessen State Park was named after Frederick William Matthiessen. The park offers 1,938 acres.

Rock formations make a visit to the park an educational and fun experience. The main canyon provides an unusual and interesting walking tour. The park also has several mineral springs.

Five miles of hiking trails are provided that allow visitors to take a relaxing walk or vigorous hike. The trails into the interiors of the two dells may be difficult to negotiate. It is advised that you stay on marked trails.

Inside the park, you may ride horses, hunt, picnic, hike, and camp. An archery range and a radio controlled model airplane field are located in the park.
